The Good Salon Guide is the only independent, nationwide scheme for assessing professional standards and services within the hairdressing and beauty industries. Listing around 2,000 salons in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the Good Salon Guide has become the kitemark of quality for the public and hairdressing industry.
Hairdressing salons are visited and objectively assessed by professionally trained inspectors against a set of strict criteria in the same way as the well-known AA or RAC hotel guides, giving consumers confidence in their choice.
A Good Salon Guide rating shows that the salon has suitably trained and qualified staff, top quality products and aims to achieve and maintain the highest standards.
Every Good Salon Guide recognised salon is assessed using criteria that has been developed since 1993 following ongoing consultation with the general public and hairdressing industry.
Hair and beauty salons can be awarded one of four possible awards — Registered (R), 3, 4 or 5 Star — and is based on training and qualifications so that when you visit a Good Salon Guide recognised salon, you can be assured that the stylists or beauty therapists are qualified and/or suitably experienced, giving you confidence in the service they are performing.
Barbers, Blow-dry Bars and Training Academies are awarded one level of Recognition.
